The most beautiful walks in the Attergau – Part 3

From Lake Attersee to Rossmoos
Attersee Panorama Trail
“A varied trail to enjoy” – that’s how you could sum up this hike. There’s hardly any elevation gain, yet you’re still rewarded with plenty of beautiful views of the Höllengebirge, Lake Attersee and idyllic meadows and forests.
You start at Abtsdorf Church, just south of St. Georgen. You can also park here. Pass the children’s playground on the right, cross a road and you’ll come to a wayside shrine. Here, turn left onto a forest track through fields and a small wooded area until you reach Winterleithen and Breitenröth. At the fork in the path, there is also a chapel worth seeing, the Schusterkapelle. Here, keep left, and do the same a little later at the Schusterkreuz.
About 300 m further on, leave the tarmac road and walk along a farm track through meadows and fields to Aufham. There, turn left at the edge of the village and follow the road for a short distance through a residential area. Then turn left again. A little later, turn left onto a road that leads back to Abtsdorf. Places to stop for refreshments along the way include Gasthof Hemetsberger, Gasthof Kreuzer and Gasthof Cerny.

Rossmoos Crossing
The Rossmoos (1,015 m) is an easy mountain to climb on the western shore of Lake Attersee. Perfect for leisurely hikers. The crossing offers beautiful views without any danger. This hike is particularly worthwhile in spring, when the flower-filled meadows are in full bloom. The route takes you through fields and woods, and at the end a wonderful swim in Lake Attersee awaits.
The hike begins at the motorway bridge in Oberwang. Immediately after the bridge, turn left across the Krespelbach on a wide meadow path towards the small village of Bachau. Then turn right, where you walk a short distance along a tarmac road before turning onto a meadow path that climbs steeply until you reach another road. Here, turn right again briefly and finally climb up a meadow path to the chapel and the three high crosses at Ifang (830 m).
Here you can treat yourself to a short rest on the wooden bench. The alpine road leads almost level to an alpine hut and then gently downhill to a forest track, where you turn back onto the marked path. From here, you’ll be walking mostly through the forest, but you’ll still catch lovely views of the Hoher Göll or the Watzmann. You then come across another chapel and climb up to the Roosmoos summit. There is no summit cross here, but there is a comfortable park bench. From here, the route heads downhill again. You descend eastwards to the left, along wide paths and forest trails, and later along the Nösstalbach stream to the centre of Nussdorf am Attersee.
