Walking from St. Georgen into the countryside
Hiking in the Attergau
The Attergau is a truly beautiful region for hiking. Landscape, culture and nature are closely intertwined. You can see and feel this immediately. Hikers can expect lush greenery, magnificent views of mountains and lakes, and above all, fresh air and a sense of well-being. We have selected the most beautiful hikes in our area for you:
The Celtic Tree Trail
The Celts settled in our region very early on. This is evidenced by excavations of Celtic settlements dating back to the fourth century BC. On the Celtic Tree Trail, you gain an insight into the way of life of the Celts over 2,000 years ago. Various nature-themed elements relating to flora and fauna are also presented. The award-winning adventure trail is two and a half or almost six kilometres long, depending on the route, and features numerous interactive stations to try out, information boards to marvel at and cosy spots to relax in. The longer route takes around one hour and 20 minutes to walk. Guided tours are also available on request (book at the tourist office).
The circular route starts at Gasthof Grüner Baum in St. Georgen, heading north across the Dürre Ager to the Koglberg. From there, the route continues to Kogl, past the Landgasthof Spitzerwirt, and finally back to St. Georgen im Attergau.
- Difficulty: easy
- Distance: 5.8 km
- Duration: 1 hour 20 mins - Elevation
gain: 155 m
The Kinzl Circuit
The Kinzlrunde takes its name from the Kinzl Mill, which you pass on this route. However, it is only part of the trail, which mainly follows the stream bed of the Dürre Ager. Here, the route takes you through the cultivated landscape of the Attergau, with meadows and small woods. The Dürre Ager flows through a flat and secluded meadow valley, making it ideal for walkers who prefer a quieter pace.
From the station in St. Georgen, the route takes you through Ing. Stern-Gasse and along the main road towards Eggenberg. Crossing a bridge, you reach the Kinzl Mill, on the north side of which a 300-metre-long meadow path leads into a small mixed woodland. At a crossroads with a bench, take the middle path towards Engljähring. From there, head north across meadows and small woods to the Au-Mühle, where the tour’s turning point is located. Here, you cross the Dürre Ager and, on the other side of the stream, make your way back to St. Georgen im Attergau.
- Difficulty: easy
- Distance: 7.6 km
- Duration: 2
hours - Elevation gain: 115 m
The Hotel Winzer is, of course, happy to assist its hiking-enthusiast guests with planning their walks. We wish you a lovely walk.
