2015/29/08
An idyllically situated walking trail, exciting interactive stations and all sorts of interesting facts about the past.
Along the approximately 3.5-kilometre-long Kelten.Baum.Weg in Attergau, you’ll embark on a journey back in time to the Celts. Just a few steps from Hotel Winzer is the starting point for this exciting discovery tour, which is sure to delight with its numerous interactive stations and even a small open-air museum. We’ll take you on a hike through beautiful countryside and on a journey of discovery into the lives of the Celts.
The Kelten.Baum.Weg and its stations
Along the way, there are a total of nine exciting interactive stations for young and old to discover:
- Who were the Celts? Here you can learn all about the origins of Celtic culture
- Salt and iron: How did the Celts acquire their wealth?
- Warriors, blacksmiths and druids: the structure of society
- Sacred trees – sacred animals: What did the Celts believe in?
- Wool, weaving and precious jewellery: What was fashionable among the Celts
- Traces of the Insular Celts: Festivals and celebrations among the Celts
- Housing in the Iron Age: A Celtic dwelling and baking oven house, reconstructed by archaeologists, awaits discovery
- Sowing and Harvesting: Agriculture in the Iron Age
Further highlights along the walk
The Celtic dwelling and bakehouse is not the only impressive building along the walk: the Kelten.Baum.Weg also passes the Kogl ruins, which served as the seat of power in the Attergau region for centuries and whose remains lie hidden deep within the forest. Another highlight of this circular walk is undoubtedly the 1,000-year-old lime tree in the village of St. Georgen im Attergau. But the ‘Island of Nature’, the many information points, the large, knotted gateway to the avenue and the exciting ‘Island of the Senses’ are also not to be missed under any circumstances.
In the footsteps of the Celts with an experienced guide
If you’d rather not explore the Kelten.Baum.Weg on your own, you can join a guided walk. Conny, the Kelten.Baum.Weg guide, will accompany you in historical costume as you follow in the footsteps of the Celts and recount many fascinating stories from the Iron Age.
From idea to exciting project
The Kelten.Baum.Weg in Attergau was officially opened in June 2006 with a grand Celtic festival following three years of development. As early as 2003, the idea was born to bring the beautiful, ancient avenues around St. Georgen more into the public eye. At the same time, Celtic burial mounds were discovered in the municipality of Berg im Attergau. So what could be more natural than to combine these two themes into a varied themed walk? Accompanied by archaeologists and experts on life in the Iron Age, an award-winning adventure trail was thus created.
