Sweet temptation: Renate Winzer's Scheiterhaufen

The way to the heart is through the stomach. Especially when Renate Winzer’s delicious recipe for a Scheiterhaufen is involved. The Winzer family hopes you enjoy baking and eating it!

Ingredients:

  • 5 bread rolls or 250 g brioche
  • ½ l whipping cream
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 heaped tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • 80 g granulated sugar
  • a few raisins, if desired
  • approx. ½ kg apples, peeled and sliced

Method:

  • Cut or tear the bread roll or brioche into small pieces
  • Whisk together the cream, eggs, vanilla sugar and caster sugar, then pour the mixture over the bread
  • Leave to stand for at least 1–2 hours (if the mixture is very thick, add a dash of cream)
  • Add the apples and raisins and fold in
  • Pour into a buttered dish and bake at a low temperature of 130 °C for 45 minutes
