The way to the heart is through the stomach. Especially when Renate Winzer’s delicious recipe for a Scheiterhaufen is involved. The Winzer family hopes you enjoy baking and eating it!
Ingredients:
- 5 bread rolls or 250 g brioche
- ½ l whipping cream
- 5 eggs
- 1 heaped tablespoon vanilla sugar
- 80 g granulated sugar
- a few raisins, if desired
- approx. ½ kg apples, peeled and sliced
Method:
- Cut or tear the bread roll or brioche into small pieces
- Whisk together the cream, eggs, vanilla sugar and caster sugar, then pour the mixture over the bread
- Leave to stand for at least 1–2 hours (if the mixture is very thick, add a dash of cream)
- Add the apples and raisins and fold in
- Pour into a buttered dish and bake at a low temperature of 130 °C for 45 minutes
