The 5 most beautiful places to visit around Lake Attersee
Ahoy on Lake Attersee
The best way to explore Lake Attersee is by boat. The water is crystal clear, the landscape is picturesque and wild and romantic, and there are always new views to discover. Tourist boat trips on Lake Attersee have a long tradition. Boats have been carrying tourists across the lake commercially since as far back as 1869. No wonder, as this is the best way to see Lake Attersee at its most beautiful and to reach the best destinations around the lake in comfort. Attersee-Schifffahrt operates three boats with which you can explore the lake on round trips, point-to-point journeys or themed cruises. There is plenty to see at the stops along the way. Discover, for example, Gustav Maler’s estate or the natural beauty around the lake. Alongside the cultural and scenic highlights, culinary delights on board are not to be missed.
Upper Austria’s largest nature park
Are you looking for beautiful nature? Then head for the Attersee-Traunsee Nature Park! There, you can hike through a wonderful and diverse landscape featuring colourful flower meadows, larch forests, fruit trees, alpine pastures and hidden vantage points. The well-marked hiking trails take you across 77 km² to the region’s most beautiful spots, offering peace and energy for body, mind and soul. A pure nature experience!
Deep gorges & wild water
North-east of the Schafberg, the Burggrabenklamm gorge flows into the southern part of Lake Attersee. The gorge is an impressive natural monument with a ravine up to 300 m deep and, in places, wild water that has carved its way deep into the rock. Since 2015, a suspension bridge has also spanned the gorge, with the path leading to an 18-metre-high waterfall that plunges into a basin. You can easily reach the Burggrabenklamm by boat across Lake Attersee. There is a dedicated boat stop called ‘Burggrabenklamm’. Please note that access to the gorge is subject to weather conditions and may be closed in the event of danger.
Flying with the bees
The Attersee Bee Farm is located right on the Attergauer Landesstraße. Here you can experience the world of bees up close. An educational trail with 30 stations, a display beehive and three bee islands offer an insight into the daily life of bees. The visit is free! On the guided tours for the public and children, you can learn everything you need to know first-hand from beekeepers and bee experts for a small fee. For example, how a bee colony works or how bees produce honey from pollen. Honey is, of course, the star attraction in the farm shop. There you can sample various bee products from all over the world and enjoy regional farm specialities such as farm-made ice cream or Hoangarten beer.
Favourite spot
There are probably several favourite spots around Lake Attersee. One particularly beautiful spot is located near Nußdorf am Attersee on a small hill – the ‘Glücksplatz Pfarrer Salettl’. In Austria, ‘Salettl’ refers to a small garden pavilion. Here at Pfarrer Salettl, alongside the magnificent view over Lake Attersee, you’ll find the long-awaited peace and quiet. The view sweeps across the mountains and lake, inviting you to linger and let go. A true place of power. You can reach the spot from the centre of Nußdorf via the Wildholzweg (a nature trail), which ends at Pfarrer Salettl. Walking time approx. 1 hour.
All these special places are easily accessible from the Hotel Winzer, where the door to the Attergau stands wide open.
