Make Mum happy anyway!

Joy knows no boundaries

Mother’s Day has been celebrated in Austria since 1924. We don’t yet know what it will look like in 2020 or what rules we’ll need to follow. In any case, it will be different from previous years. The coronavirus has completely changed our daily lives. Many can only visit their mums from a distance. Physical distancing shows us just how important hugs and little cuddles are for our well-being. We’ve been thinking about what might really bring joy to your mums, even in these difficult times.

What do mums want for Mother’s Day?

The classic Mother’s Day gift is flowers. You can’t really go wrong with them. But you should find out beforehand which flowers Mum really likes and which she doesn’t! As a child, everyone has made something for their mum or recited a poem. It is generally believed that these gifts bring the most joy. However, various surveys are now challenging this belief. What many mums apparently appreciate even more is simply some stress-free time with their loved ones. Just like at the Hotel Winzer. This wellness spa hotel in the Salzkammergut offers wonderful getaways for feeling good and relaxing. Whether it’s just for a day at the day spa, with a full wellness programme, massage and buffet, or for several days in wellness heaven, tailored to your specific wishes. Choose from our offers! By the way, vouchers can be ordered very easily online. And if you need them quickly, you can print them out yourself straight away. We’re not allowed to open our doors just yet, but the time will come! And with a voucher from Hotel Winzer, the anticipation for Mother’s Day is sure to be even greater.

Sacher Heart Recipe

Our kitchen has also been thinking about what to give for Mother’s Day, and we have a house recipe ready for you, so the voucher doesn’t arrive all on its own:

Ingredients & Method: Cream
200 g butter with 100 g icing sugar, a pinch of salt and 1 packet of vanilla sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually stir in 6 egg yolks. Slowly stir in 140 g of softened and cooled chocolate. Whisk the 6 egg whites with 70 g of granulated sugar until soft peaks form (not too stiff). Then mix the yolk mixture with the egg whites and 140 g of plain flour, and sift in a pinch of baking powder. Fold the mixture in gently but thoroughly and pour into a buttered tin. Bake at approx. 160°C for approx. 40 mins and test with a wooden skewer if necessary. Leave to cool briefly, remove from the tin and spread with hot apricot jam. Then coat with chocolate icing.

The glaze: melt
200 g cooking chocolate in a bain-marie. Do not stir! Remove from the bain-marie and quickly stir in approx. 200 g cold butter, cut into small cubes. Glaze immediately. Decorate as desired.

Good luck!
