In love with the Hotel Winzer

An interview with regular guest Diana von Rohr
Diana von Rohr has been travelling all the way from Switzerland to the Attergau for many years to spend a special time with her husband at the Hotel Winzer. We asked her what drives her, what she values so much about this hotel, and what recommendations a regular guest might have.
Dear Diana, would you mind telling us a little about yourself and your partner?
We live in the Swiss countryside and have been together for 24 years. We got married in 2016. We both work, and on our days off we love to go for a ride on our mountain bikes. We’re very sociable and enjoy spending time with our family and friends.
How many years have you been regular guests at the Hotel Winzer now? How did you first hear about it? Can you still remember your first visit?
Let me think for a moment… We’ve been regular guests since 2006. That’s quite a while now (laughs)! A former neighbour raved about the Hotel Winzer to us. So we thought, let’s give it a go. I can remember very clearly when we drove up for the first time and the hotel doors opened: we were immediately impressed!
You must be really enthusiastic if you make the trip all the way from Switzerland to the Attergau every year. It’s quite a long way. Why do you make the effort to travel such a long distance?
Yes, it really is a long way – 600 km, after all. But we know exactly what to expect at the Hotel Winzer and that our wishes come true here! We particularly appreciate the family atmosphere, and it has almost become a second home for us.
A second home? How often a year do you visit the Hotel Winzer?
It varies, but at least once or twice a year. We’ve even managed to come three times a year (grins).
You also come here every year for New Year’s Eve. What’s on offer and how do you celebrate the New Year here?
New Year’s Eve at Winzer is absolutely brilliant! The food truck arrives in the afternoon to get us in the mood with Feuerzangenbowle, champagne and snacks. What we always love is that there’s a different theme every year. We dress up accordingly for the evening. Then there’s the fantastic New Year’s Eve menu as the culinary highlight, and to make sure you don’t forget the party amidst all the celebrations, there’s a photo booth. Yes, and Mark’s NY Bar is always the best place to start the new year anyway!
What are the benefits of being a regular guest?
Well, the regular guest discount, of course (winks)! You also always bump into other regulars whom you already know and like. And what we really appreciate is that the long-serving staff always give us a warm welcome and our favourite table is already reserved.
“Cuddling” is an important aspect of any intimate relationship. How do these stays at the Kuschelhotel Winzer affect your partnership?
Everyone knows the stresses and worries of everyday life. It’s the same for us. Often there’s no time or inclination to cuddle because you fall into bed exhausted in the evening. At the Hotel Winzer, you can completely relax from the very first minute, treat yourselves, and that naturally has a positive effect on the relationship. You finally have time for each other again, and we really enjoy that!
Is the Hotel Winzer a good place for romance?
Absolutely! There’s so much to discover and enjoy together here. Those who prefer some privacy can retreat to the various cosy nooks, or the lovely cosy cinema, and of course the fantastic rooms and suites with whirlpool baths.
Aside from cuddling and romance, wellness is also a major focus here. What do you like best about it and what would you recommend to other guests?
There’s a huge range on offer, but above all, the guests are spread out very well in the wellness area. Even when the hotel is fully booked, you can still always find a cosy spot. We’ve tried quite a few things ourselves, such as massages or the facial treatment. The couples’ treatment is something really special there; I can really recommend it!
Cuisine is also a major priority at the Winzer. How important is that to you? Have you ever had breakfast in bed or a candlelit dinner? For
us, the food is one of the absolute highlights at the Winzer! We book the candlelit dinner every time – it’s simply a dream! My husband loves typical Austrian desserts like Scheiterhaufen, Kaiserschmarren or Topfenknödel. They taste best here.
The Attergau and the Salzkammergut are very charming in terms of both scenery and culture. What’s different here compared to Switzerland?
We love our Swiss homeland, the mountains, lakes and beautiful nature. That’s very similar to Austria, after all. But we’ve also fallen in love with the beautiful Salzkammergut, the fantastic cycle paths, the warm hospitality and especially Lake Mondsee. We have to cycle round it every time we visit!
The Hotel Winzer also has a very good hotel bar in Marks NY Bar. What do you think of it? We know
the bar well (grins)! It’s very tastefully decorated and behind the bar are simply real experts who always conjure up excellent cocktails for us. We’ve spent many unforgettable and fun evenings here. And after dinner, we also like to pop in there for a nightcap or two.
Last question: What makes the Hotel Winzer so special to you?
There’s always something new to discover here every year. We came here once as guests and left as friends… and have remained so to this day.
Thank you very much, Diana, for the lovely interview!
You’re welcome, and I’d also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the staff: thank you for helping to ensure that we always get to enjoy such a wonderful holiday!! And we wish the Winzer family many more successful and carefree years, and that their passion for being outstanding hosts never ends. We’ll stay loyal to you!
