Tips for cycle routes with beautiful views
Tarock Cycle Route
You can join the Tarock Cycle Route directly from the Hotel Winzer and explore seven villages with numerous cultural sites and inns along its approximately 45 km route. The route starts at the Haus der Kultur in St. Georgen, heading towards Reichenthalheim. Passing through the village of Haid, you cycle to Vöcklamarkt, then on to Pfaffing and Ziegelhaid. The next stops are Außerreith, Fornach, Doppelmühle, Piereth, Pointen and Frankenmarkt. Via Weißenkirchen, Hölleiten, Röth, Pössing, Thanham, Buch and Lohen, the route leads back to St. Georgen. Along the way, you’ll pass archaeological sites, a castle and two themed trails. The tour offers plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments and, at around 4 hours and approximately 500 metres of elevation gain, is perfect for a leisurely ride into the countryside. Almtal Cycle Route R11
The Almtal is one of the less touristy areas of the Salzkammergut. Here, at the foot of the Totes Gebirge, you’ll find plenty of unspoilt nature, crystal-clear lakes and imposing mountains. A cycle tour allows you to get to know the Almtal up close. The tour starts in Wels, passing through Eberstalzell, Pettenbach and Scharnstein to Grünau, the gateway to the Almtal. From there, the landscape changes; settlements and houses become scarcer and nature more abundant. You pass the Konrad Lorenz Research Centre and the Cumberland Wildlife Park, and after the Jägersimmerl inn, you finally reach the Almsee, the tour’s final destination. Incidentally, there is a fantastic echo spot by the road there, where echo concerts are also held. At the Jägersimmerl, you can also turn off towards the Ödseen lakes. The water there is so clear that you can see right to the bottom. The cycle route covers approximately 56 kilometres and takes just over 4 hours, with an elevation gain of around 640 metres. Aussee Cycle Route
Slightly shorter, but nonetheless no less impressive, is the route from Bad Mitterndorf to Bad Ischl. With an elevation gain of around 930 metres, the tour offers a challenge for more ambitious cyclists, but it also rewards you with a wonderful landscape. You pass the magnificent lakes of Grundlsee and Altaussee, with the villages of Bad Aussee and Altaussee, catch sight of the imposing Loser mountain, and finally arrive at the imperial spa town of Bad Ischl with its old-world charm and many sweet delicacies. A dreamlike cycle route through a particularly beautiful area. Further details on the cycle tour.
