Out into the countryside on two wheels
St. Georgen im Attergau is situated close to legendary lakes, idyllic forests and imposing mountains. Anyone cycling through this diverse landscape takes in more than a motorist. It starts with the sounds, the scents and the impressions of the landscape passing by slowly, and ends with healthy exercise in the open air. This clears the mind and keeps the body supple. Our cycle network is small but excellent: 9 cycle tours, 12 MTB tours and 4 road bike tours lead through our region. Below you’ll find a small selection of our favourites:
R101 Tarock Cycle Path Oberwang
This is probably the shortest tour, taking just under 1 hour 30 minutes. You start at the tourist office in St. Georgen im Attergau and cycle 18 km via Straß im Attergau, Powang, Grossenschwandt, Oberwang and back. The route also features two special highlights – the Oberwang boundary stone and the ‘Lebensroas’ themed trail – and is well signposted. Simply follow the signs marked 101.
R100 Tarock Cycle Route
Those who enjoy longer rides should follow the Tarock Cycle Route R100. The 43 km route involves a 715-metre climb and takes around 3 hours. The route connects seven villages and their inns. From the tourist office in St. Georgen im Attergau, the route goes via Haid to Vöcklamarkt. From there, it passes through a few small villages to Frankenmarkt and continues via Weißenkirchen im Attergau and the Koglberg to Thanham. You pass through Straß im Attergau and, via Buch and Lohen, finally return to the start.
Kabong Mountain Bike Tour
The 48.82 km Kabong mountain bike tour takes approx. 4 hours 20 minutes. The name is formed from the initial letters of the route: Kronberg, Attersee (Nußdorf), Berg, Oberwang and St. Georgen im Attergau. From St. Georgen, the route first heads to Kronberg and then climbs a few metres in altitude to Wienerroith, where a fantastic viewpoint awaits. Via Nußdorf and the Dachstein view near Linberg, you continue on to Oberwang. After passing through small villages and along a gravel road, you reach the Klauswald forest near Lichtenberg, where another magnificent view awaits. Then it’s back to St. Georgen. You can be proud of yourself, as by the end you will have climbed over 1,000 metres in altitude.
Attersee Circuit
Of course, a cycle tour around Lake Attersee is a must – after all, the lake is just 5 km from St. Georgen im Attergau. It takes about 20 minutes to cycle to Attersee am Attersee. Then the actual cycle tour begins. You pass through Nußdorf, Zell am Attersee, Unterach am Attersee, Weißenbach am Attersee, Steinbach am Attersee, Weyregg am Attersee and Seewalchen am Attersee. On the eastern side of the lake, you’ll mostly be cycling along a road. The tour takes about 4 hours and covers around 55 km. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to jump into the crystal-clear waters of Lake Attersee and cool off.
By the way, you can easily hire bikes from us at Hotel Winzer.
