The Attergau – a summer idyll

The Salzkammergut has a long tradition of relaxation, holidays and tranquillity. Summer visitors were already coming here in the 19th century to unwind. Why here in particular? Because in the Salzkammergut, and therefore also in the Attergau, you can be at one with the most beautiful natural surroundings. Fantastically clear lakes with drinking-water quality, wonderful hiking trails through magical forests and mountains, living culture and tradition in idyllic villages, and cuisine to rave about. It is in summer, in particular, that the variety of leisure activities is at its greatest. Lakes worth seeing

The Attersee is situated right next to the Hotel Winzer. Covering an area of 46 km², it is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut and captivates visitors with its beauty and wide range of leisure activities. Activities such as swimming or motorboating go without saying. However, the clear waters, teeming with fish, are also of interest to divers and anglers. The famous ‘Rosenwind’ of Lake Attersee provides sailors and surfers with a thrilling experience. Yet, alongside these activities, it is above all the unique setting amidst steep mountain faces, picturesque villages, dense forests and rolling hills that makes Lake Attersee so appealing

. The holiday villas of Gustav Klimt and other celebrities of yesteryear are also well worth a visit. Furthermore, the Salzkammergut offers a variety of lakes that is second to none. Mondsee, Wolfgangsee, Irrsee, Fuschlsee, Traunsee, Hallstättersee, Altaussee, Almsee and Hintersee are all well worth a visit, whether you want to go swimming or simply marvel at the beauty of the waters and their surroundings. Then why not book a boat trip or a dive – available directly through us. The region also has plenty to offer for those longing for the mountains. We’d be happy to share our favourite hiking tips with you or organise a trip on the historic Schafbergbahn – a real highlight with stunning views.

Fancy taking it easy? Then hop on the nostalgic Attergau Railway, which has been running through the picturesque countryside since 1913. Or take to the skies – with a hot-air balloon ride. The view over the lake landscape is simply unforgettable.
