As we all know, the way to the heart is through the stomach...

So it’s hardly surprising that many a couple has found love over a delicious, romantic meal. Newlyweds live on air and love – an atmospheric candlelit dinner can further enhance these feelings. That’s why we’ve put together 5 tips for you to enchant your loved one with a romantic candlelit dinner.

Just thinking about that special someone sends a tingling sensation through your whole body. If you then receive a message from them, your hormones go completely haywire. The butterflies in your stomach flutter wildly, your thoughts go on a rollercoaster ride. Being in love releases a huge amount of dopamine, the ‘happiness hormone’ serotonin takes hold, and the ‘cuddle hormone’ oxytocin floods our bodies. All these chemicals conjure up a permanent grin on our faces when we’re in love...

1. A romantic evening

Soft candlelight illuminates the room. Atmospheric music fills the air. A glass of fine wine in your hand, a fantastic meal on the table. This is what a successful candlelit dinner looks like – we’ll help you create an unforgettable evening with 5 tips: The menu selection – simple yet sensational!

Choose a menu you’re familiar with. Don’t pick a new, fancy recipe you’ve found online or elsewhere. It’s better to stick to tried-and-tested dishes than to try something new. After all, you don’t want anything to go wrong today, do you?

Choose a menu where you can do a lot of the preparation in advance. A salad or soup makes a good starter. For the main course, steak with crisp vegetables or fish is recommended. And for dessert, choose, for example, a sweet, tempting chocolate cake with ice cream or a French tart.

It’s also a good idea to find out your partner’s preferences beforehand. But don’t tailor the entire menu solely to your partner. After all, it’s a romantic evening for both of you.

2. Cooking together or on your own?

That’s entirely up to you. Cooking together has a certain appeal; it brings you closer. If you both enjoy cooking, preparing the meal together can send you straight to seventh heaven. However, it often ends in arguments if one of you thinks they know better. To avoid this, it’s best to prepare the menu on your own.

3. Choosing drinks – not too much alcohol!

What wine is best served with the perfect candlelit dinner? Do you know in advance whether red or white wine is preferred? Which wine goes with the planned meal? To ensure nothing goes wrong, simply get both red and white wine. The white wine should be chilled beforehand, and the red wine opened in advance. A carafe of water should also be on the table. A good glass of wine is part of any good candlelit dinner, but it shouldn’t be overdone.

4. Stay natural and don’t overdo it

Stay true to your principles and don’t overdo it. This applies to both the table decorations and your outfit. There’s no point in preparing everything to perfection if it doesn’t suit you at all. Your partner will notice this. Don’t forget: in a good relationship, you accept your partner just as they are.

5. How to deal with minor mishaps

If you get a bit too carried away with the cooking spoon out of sheer nervousness, a little mishap can happen. As the saying goes, ‘Love makes the soup too salty’. If that happens, it’s no drama. Simply grate one or two potatoes into the soup and then remove the shavings afterwards. Or the steak sauce goes lumpy. No problem either. Just pass it through a small sieve or blend it with a hand blender – and in no time at all the lumps will have disappeared.

If you’d like to surprise your loved one with a very special candlelit dinner, we recommend the candlelit dinner at the Hotel Winzer. The five-course menu leaves nothing to be desired. Subdued lighting, candlelight, flowers and a good wine make the evening a romantic highlight.
